Who Created These

The title, Who Created These is from the Zohar.

This is the central panel of a recently unearthed mosaic floor near Lod Israel. The design is Mandala-like and I recreated the way the space was divided and inserted animals in the same way they were in the original.

The origninal design has a central mandala-like pattern of animals, surrounded by ships and water creatures.

How do birds know to gather together when they migrate? Why do they rise up into the air when the sun rises? Who created the stars in the sky, elephants, flowers and who created us?

These questions are explored in Rabbi Lawrence Kushner’s book, Kabbalah, A Love Story. I think in one way or another, we have all felt that sense of awe, and asked those questions.
